“If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming. Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.” 1 Corinthians 15:19-24
This month we celebrate Easter. While the world celebrates in many different and erroneous ways, Easter is about the triumph of God in the resurrection from the dead of the crucified Savior, Jesus Christ.
Easter is A Triumph Over Despair!
Paul says “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. If we, as believers, are putting our confidence in Christ, are adjusting our lives to be lived according to the commands of God, and it all ends with the grave–we should be greatly pitied. If that is true death does not offer hope, it only brings despair.
The hope of every Christian is that there is more than just the grave, there is hope for something after the grave—death is not the end. By his resurrection from the dead, Jesus not only conquered death for himself but he conquered death for every believer as well. The truth of eternal life makes a difference in how we live now.
Easter Is A Triumph Over Depravity!
The biggest problem man has is sin. Sin is a problem that man has no ability to overcome. It is sin that brings death and the just punishment for that sin—hell. For Christ to make right what man has ruined, he must conquer sin. Adam sinned and passed sin and death to all men. However, through Christ all who place faith in him are made alive.
How does Christ accomplish this victory of sin and death? By dying in our place. By receiving the wrath of God in our stead. By his work on the cross of Calvary, Jesus becomes the first fruits, of all those who will be resurrected to life for eternity. Because in the death of Christ, God triumphs over sin and death, we have hope.
Easter Is A Triumph Over Destiny!
All men have an eternal destiny. All men will live–some to the resurrection of damnation, some to the resurrection of life. Because of original sin, the default destiny of humanity is rejection of Christ and damnation. However, to those who embrace Jesus as Savior and Lord, will enter into his glorious kingdom and know the fulfillment of all that God intended for man. Christ has destroyed this last enemy—death.
Jesus died so that he could rise. He rose so he could return. He returns so he can reign.
